Swarms
Swarms are the way bees divide and leave a hive usually due to the lack of space. Many people are fearful that the bees are harmful as they move around in a clump, but they are in a very calm state when they are in a swarm and are simply looking for a new place to settle into. Since bees are in the decline in numbers and we need bees for three out of five fork fulls of food we consume, please don't harm the bees. Leave them alone; don't crowd them.
What should you do if you find a swarm? Please don't spray them with anything (water, pesticides, smoke). Call a local beekeeper or beekeeping club in your area. If the swarm is in the Colorado Springs region, please call the Highland Beekeeping Club, Colorado, and they will be happy to get a beekeeper to help out. You can reach them at 303-916-7398.
